The Writing Process
In this class, you will write for an audience. That audience is your teacher and your fellow classmates. Written communication is meant to be understood by others. Think about this idea as you compose your thoughts. Each practice essay will undergo the following steps:
1. Outline- This is a rough plan of how you will write your essay. It should show your organization and logical flow of ideas. 2. Draft 1- This is your first attempt at your essay. It is due 24 hours before the next class. In class, you will get feedback about this draft. 3. Draft 2- After you've received feedback from your classmates, revise your drafts. Fix grammar and punctuation errors. Clarify your points. Read it aloud to check for other errors. Submit your draft to me as a Google doc on Drive. Then, I will give you feedback and suggestions for further revisions. 4. Final draft- After you've incorporated my feedback, your final draft will be due. |
Formatting
Correctly formatting your essay is an important part of preparing to write papers for other college classes. Please format in the following manner:
* All practice essays must be typed in Word using Times New Roman 12 font size and double-spaced. *It must have your name, the course name, my name, the name of the assignment. and the date.* * I will not except handwritten essays.*
If you do not have Microsoft Word on your home computer, you may download Open Office. This is a free and legal alternative to Microsoft Office. Google Docs may also be downloaded as Word documents.
